Vox Biomedical, LLC was recently founded with a vision to apply advanced photonics technology to drug detection in exhaled breath. The company is currently developing a roadside marijuana exhaled breath analyzer under funding from the US Department of Transportation.

Vox Biomedical is being headed up by Roger Little, who has started and successfully operated numerous high technology businesses including Spire Corporation. The device development is being spearheaded by Dr. Kurt Linden who has many years of experience in developing optoelectronic and spectroscopic technologies, materials, and devices.

The Vox breath analyzer utilizes advanced laser technology for measurement of THC and CBD collected from the breath. The Vox approach has significant advantages over competitive devices including increased sensitivity and the ability to distinguish THC from CBD and other cannabinoids to avoid false positives.

Development of the Vox breath analyzer is initially focused on the law enforcement market, where no accepted roadside device is currently available for determining intoxication. With the legalized marijuana industry growing rapidly, driver intoxication and impairment is becoming a significant safety concern. Current methods of determining intoxication involve extraction of bodily fluids that cannot be tested immediately and sometimes require a warrant. The Vox device will overcome these limitations.

Beyond marijuana intoxication, Vox’s breath analyzer device has broad applicability to the much larger workplace drug detection market.

Vox Biomedical, LLC is located in the Science & Technology District of Bedford, MA.
